Monumen Nasional

Monumen Nasional, or National Monument—which is better known by the abbreviation Monas—is commemorative monument built in remembrance of the struggles the Indonesians face during their quest for freedom under the rule of the Dutch at the times before the country reached independence. The monument was first built on 17 August 1961 under the direction of Soekarno, and opened for public on 12 July 1975. Located right at the center of Lapangan Medan Merdeka in Central Jakarta, Monas is opened every day from 8 AM to 3 PM. Visitors can even go high up in Monas to see the landscape view of Jakarta
